If you didn’t know Kyla, you missed out. She was a sweet southern belle with a heart of gold. She became a fast friend as we worked across the street from each other. This is a crushing blow for me and our HR community. Godspeed! And God bless Brad and the family. 🙏❤️

Adam Grant is one of my favorite leadership thought leaders who is an acadamian but who is simultaneously a real person with practical insights. Learners (Clifton Strengths) want people to learn (not a bad thing). Leaders want people to grow, then to grow other leaders! Most leaders are learners. Great thought-provoking sentiments here.

When I think of leaders I want to emulate, Jeff Miller is at the top.He is comfortable in his own skin, confident, poised, learned, humble, and creative. He begins “where they are”! Congratulations, Jeff.

I’m so proud of what Norah has done. And the connection with Jon over the old 97s has been a fantastic journey.

Today is International HR Day. Many of you say, "Who cares?" And we HR people are proud that you would say that. Do you ever think about thanking your Payroll Team for getting your check right AGAIN this week for the 26th or 52nd time this year? No, because it happens like magic. Do you thank the Talent Acquisition person for tracking down I9 documents for your new hire so they can be hired legally? Do you thank your Employee Relations team for reminding you and helping you with pesky performance management stuff you hate, and you are not at all good at? Do you thank your Training and Development Team for getting your new-hire certified to do productive work in your organization? Do you thank your HR-based safety leaders for continuing to provide a safe place to work? Have you thanked them for defending you to your neanderthal manager who thinks yelling is the most effective motivator? Have you thanked the HR people who sent flowers to your mother's funeral? Have you thought about the time your marriage was on the rocks and the HR generous listener pointed you to some counseling resources that kept you sane? Or what about the time your power was out, your daycare was closed, and HR helped you "figure it out". That is why you say, "Who cares?" about International HR Day. We create a work environment where you don't have to think about those things until you need us. And when you need us... well ... you really do need us. Repost if you are proud of your HR organization, or if you want to say thanks, or if you are an HR person who is thinking "Right?" right now! In this picture are some of the hardest working HR ROCKSTARs around. I don't have a photo showing everyone on our team. They make working at ARCXIS a great experience. June 8th from 6-8PM, I will be giving back by playing the hits from the 60s to today from my dock in Cypress, Texas. It is a picnic, a float party, and a rock the dock all in one. Here is the link to the day dock and grassy area for viewing. https://lnkd.in/gbnHdbM2 In lieu of tips, I am raising funds for my son and daughter-in-law’s baby quest. They ran up an astronomically large bill during IVF. They now have a baby on the way, but I want to help them right the financial ship for Baby Boy Branch. Here is the go fund me for tips: https://gofund.me/5deb15d1God bless you! Now let’s rock out!

You don’t feel the same about this speech as you did when your parents were around. Life is cruel that way. Happy Mother’s Day (and throw Father’s Day in too). Are you brave enough to listen? Do you feel it enough to act on it?

"Each person is a wondrously complex creature, someone who will always reward your curiosity." Marcus Buckingham's words remind us that asking open-ended questions and truly listening to others is a gift we can freely give. It's a gift that makes people feel seen, heard, and appreciated. This approach is universally applicable, both at home and at work. Whether someone is in crisis or feeling victorious, leaning in with open-ended questions can lead to a deeper connection and a sense of belonging with them. Michael Stanier and Ted Lasso call it, "staying curious". So often, we're waiting to talk, tell, and give advice. But listening is the best gift we can give. Harriet Lerner writes, "If we only listened with the same passion that we feel about being heard." If someone thanks you for being a good listener, take it as the highest interpersonal compliment. So let's all strive to be better listeners. Give the gift of being heard. #ARCXIS #bestworkfriends #HR #SHRM #HRHouston #Leadershipskills #listening #Respect #caring #WholeHeartMind #Forbes #HoustonBusinessJournal #HarvardBusinessReview #Vistage #LeadershipDevelopment #HRBesties #HRNetwork

I had the distinct pleasure of guest lecturing for two classes of upper level undergrad business students at Texas A&M today. Thank you to my good friend, Gail Boyd Rogers, DBA, for inviting me to speak on Labor Relations. And it was fun to see my old friends Jerry and Kay Cox honored on the wall. Thank you to my company, ARCXIS, for seeing the value in giving back! Aggie for a Day!!! #aggies #ARCXIS #Leadership #continuouslearning #texasAandM
